Sterling Switchgear has been specifically established to provide to DNO’s and other major companies like Network Rail with the option of retaining and extending the life of their existing high voltage vacuum switchgear. In conjunction with SCS the company’s offer DNO’s the option of replacing all of the existing the vacuum bottles in their existing switchgear which in turn will extend the safe operational life of the switchgear by between twenty and forty years.

Through the adoption of this approach DNO’s will be able to significantly reduce their current switchgear replacement programmes and free their scarce and valuable jointing and fitting resources to undertake other capital work. In addition subject to the prior agreement with Ofgem probably through the submission of an IFI project DNO’s should be able to demonstrate a significant improvement in their capital efficiency and hence be allowed to keep a proportion of the subsequent capital savings.

SSL in conjunction with Sterling Procurement also have the capability to remanufacture and refurbish existing switchgear that is no longer supported by the OE supplier. In addition SSL can both design specialist switchgear and/or switchgear components or undertake condition assessment work in order to either determine the economic life of the switchgear or provide expert supporting information to submit to Ofgem.
